Frank Wren Wants to Piss Me Off?
By: mbohn
Atlanta Braves GM Frank Wren reiterated today that he will not part with any of his top prospects
, even if it meant bringing Jake Peavy home where he belongs. I am not sure who he plans on offering for Peavy, but if he lets this opportunity pass him by it will be a huge mistake in my eyes. Peavy, 27, is poised to be an ace for the next 10 years. More after the jump.
Looking at the Braves current roster, you tell me who the ace is right now. Of course it is Smotzie, but we do not even know if he will be back next season. Hudson is out for 2009. Mike Hampton is a free agent, not that it matters. That leaves Chuck James, Jair Jurrjens, Jo-Jo Reyes, Jorge Campillo and Charlie Morton as the five starters for next season. I’m not sure what Wren sees in this group, but I will say that the prospects in the Bravo’s system are as good as anyone’s right now. Wren is right that there is a bright future ahead, but they need to win now.
I can understand not wanting to part with the likes of Tommy Hanson and Jordan Schafer, but this team needs an ace on it’s staff desperately. Peavy could fill that role from day one.
