Is Today The Day It Finaly Ends?
According to CBS Sportsline’s Scott Miller, the Braves and Padres are about to finalize a deal that will send the 2007 NL Cy Young winner to Atlanta.  It looks like the holdup was getting a fourth player added to the deal, and hammering out the Hernandez/Flowers issue that arose the last day or so (the Pads turned their eyes to Flowers, who responded by cranking three homeruns yesterday and actually hired a skywriter to ask the Braves “Please don’t send me to Petco!” during the third inning).  See how the deal will look after the jump.So the deal will look as follows:
Atlanta gets Jake Peavy.  The Padres get Yunel Escobar, Gorkys Hernandez, Charlie Morton/JoJo Reyes, and Blaine Boyer/Jeff Locke or another lefty pitcher.
If this is how it shakes out, then I am a happy camper.  I would rather see Jordan Schafer get traded, but he is closer to the Majors than Hernandez is and will help the Braves in 2009.  Good work, Mr. Wren.  Good work indeed.  The Padres and Braves both need this deal to get finished today, before the free agent freeforall begins on Friday.  In my opinion, as soon as the Braves can go after Ryan Dempster, Mr. Peavy loses some trade value for the Padres.  On the other hand, getting this deal done today will allow the Braves to have a clear picture heading into Friday.
One other question, why does MLB.com call the Pads the Friars?
