Heyward/Strasburg Going According to Plan
By: mbohn

As expected, the roles that Jason Heyward and Stephen Strasburg will
play in April has been determined. Strasburg has been optioned to AA
Harrisburg, while Heyward has been awarded the starting right field spot
in Atlanta.
How long Washington will be able to keep Strasburg out of the Bigs is
unclear. They need him to stay in the Minors until June 1st to protect
him from becoming a Super Two player. While some may point to this as
the Nats being cheap, and not wanting to pay Strasburg any earlier than
they have to, it is important to remember that we are also talking about
a year of service time. I think dude will hit the Majors in July, and
give your fantasy squad a good 15 starts. Those starts will be worth
the wait, so do not hesitate to draft Strasburg if he falls to the right
spot for the value.
Heyward, meanwhile, has been a beast all of March, and the Braves had no
choice but to keep him with the big league club. Heyward will have an
instant impact, and could be a top 20 outfielder by the end of the
season. Do not sleep on Heyward, his ADP is going to improve from his
current spot at 164, and as the 47th OF off the board. Everyone in your
league knows who he is. You will not be able to wait until the 6th
round if you want Heyward on your roster. My opinion? If you can nab
Heyward in the 5th, do it. The 4th might be a stretch, but if my
expectations are in line then he will be 3rd or 2nd round value by
seasons end.
It should be noted that I am a huge Braves fan, and may be slightly
optimistic on Heyward. I mean, I did wind up with Martin Prado as my
starting two bagger in my FSWA Insiders League. Of course, Heyward was
off the board at pick 129 in that one, so I am not alone in my
estimations on Heyward.
